Preorders & markets

Ordering and availability

How far in advance should I place a preorder?

Preorders generally close 48 hours before the scheduled pickup time.

For weekend markets, placing your order by Wednesday is the safest option. Exact cutoff times depend on the market’s start time, so earlier is always better.

Do I need to preorder before visiting a market?

No. You are always welcome to shop with us in person without placing a preorder.

Preordering is recommended when you want a specific item because popular products often sell out early. Preordered items are reserved and set aside for you.

Is the full menu available at every market?

Our full menu is typically available for preorder, but the selection available for walk-up shopping is smaller and rotates from week to week.

We regularly bring customer favorites, but no item is guaranteed unless it has been preordered.

What happens when an item sells out?

Once an item sells out at a market or event, it is no longer available that day.

You can look for it at a future market, arrive earlier the following week, or preorder it ahead of time to guarantee that it is reserved for you.

Pickup & delivery

Getting your order

Can I preorder for pickup at the Cold Sugar Bakehouse?

Yes. Bakehouse pickup is a standard preorder option with access to the full preorder menu. Orders generally must be placed at least 48 hours before the selected pickup time.

Is the Thursday Porch Shop a preorder event?

No. The Thursday Porch Shop is a separate, self-serve shopping experience with a limited weekly menu. It is open Thursdays from 3–7 p.m.

You do not preorder specifically for the Porch Shop. A Thursday preorder should instead be placed as a regular Cold Sugar Bakehouse pickup order.

How does self-serve Porch Shop checkout work?
  1. Walk up to the porch.
  2. Choose from the products available.
  3. Scan the posted QR code.
  4. Complete checkout on your phone.
  5. Take the products you purchased.

Inventory is limited and available while supplies last.

What if I am late picking up my Bakehouse preorder?

Please collect your preorder during the date and pickup window you selected whenever possible.

If you are running late, we can leave your order on the porch until 10 p.m. that evening. We recommend picking it up as soon as possible because weather conditions can affect products left outside for an extended period.

Order policies

Changes, cancellations, and missed pickups

Can I change the items in my preorder?

Possibly. Contact us as soon as you know you need a change. If the replacement item is available at your selected market or pickup location, we are happy to swap it for you.

Changes are subject to availability.

What if I cannot make it to the market during the scheduled time?

Contact us as soon as possible. In many cases, we can arrange for you to pick up your order later that same day at the bakehouse in Georgetown.

A same-day alternate pickup must be coordinated with us and is not automatic.

Can I move my order to a different day?

Orders are baked and reserved specifically for the date selected. Moving an order to another day means the original items may no longer be sellable, so the original order would be forfeited and a new order would need to be placed.

Can I cancel my order or receive a refund?

Cancellations are eligible for a refund when you contact us before the scheduled market or pickup event begins, while we still have an opportunity to sell the items.

Once the event has ended, cancellations are no longer refundable because the products were prepared and held specifically for your order.

What happens if I miss my pickup?

Orders that are not picked up on their scheduled day are considered forfeited and are not eligible for a refund.

Bread care

Storage, freezing, and reheating

How should I store my sourdough?

Storage is mostly personal preference. Kept on the counter, our sourdough is at its freshest for about three to four days. Many customers enjoy it for four to five days, although it may begin to lose some freshness.

You may also store your loaf in the refrigerator. Loaves containing cheese may lose freshness a little sooner.

Can I freeze my sourdough?

Yes. Our loaves freeze very well. If you do not expect to finish a loaf within the next few days, we recommend slicing it first, placing the slices in plastic bags, and then storing them inside a freezer-safe bag.

Frozen sourdough can keep for up to two months.

How do I refresh a frozen or older loaf?

Let the bread thaw, briefly run the outside under water, and place it in a 350°F oven for a few minutes. This helps restore the crust and makes the bread taste freshly baked again.

The heating time will depend on whether you are warming a whole loaf or only a few slices.

Ingredients & allergens

Important allergen information

Do you offer gluten-free products?

No. None of our products are gluten-free, and our kitchen handles wheat and gluten regularly.

Our products are not suitable for anyone with celiac disease or a wheat or gluten allergy.

Is your sourdough easier to tolerate than regular bread?

Some customers with gluten sensitivities have told us they tolerate our long-fermented sourdough better than other breads. However, every person is different, and our bread still contains wheat and gluten.

This is not a guarantee. Anyone with celiac disease or a wheat or gluten allergy should not consume our products.

Do your products contain common allergens?

Our home kitchen handles wheat, dairy, eggs, and nuts. Specific nut ingredients are clearly identified in the product name or description when applicable.

We clean our equipment and work areas between products and take steps to reduce cross-contact, but all products are made in a shared kitchen. We cannot guarantee that any item is free from traces of an allergen.

Nationwide delivery

Shipping

What products are available for nationwide shipping?

Nationwide shipping is available from a limited menu. We cannot ship products containing fruit or cheese because they do not travel as well and may require different handling.

The available shipping menu is shown when you select Nationwide Shipping in the shop.

When will my order ship?

Shipping orders normally leave the bakehouse on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. We use two-day air so packages typically arrive before the end of the week.

We generally avoid shipping on Thursdays and Fridays because weekend transit can reduce freshness.

What should I do if my package is delayed or damaged?

Please contact us as soon as possible and include your order number, a description of the issue, and photos when damage is visible.

We will review what happened and work with you on an appropriate way to make the order right.
